Summer Abroad Program FeatureRenewable Energy Policy & DevelopmentThe Northwestern Study Abroad Office offers this exciting summer program in conjunction with the Initiative for Sustainability & Energy at Northwestern (ISEN), the College of Global Studies at Arcadia University, & the University of Bonnn, in Bonn, Germany!Germany is an innovative leader in renewable energy systems and geopolitics. This 5-week, 2-credit summer program focuses on German energy policy and initiatives in renewable, sustainable, sources of energy—wind, solar, biomass, geothermal—and energy conservation in a European and global context. Students will gain a broad perspective on cutting-edge energy policies and global actors (i.e. major research institutes, UN agencies, German ministries, NGOs, international organizations and private corporations) through lectures, discussions, a collaborative energy project with other program participants, and excursions. Field trips include a visit to the European Commission headquarters in Brussels and a short study trip to Berlin where students will visit important historic sites and interact with representatives from key governmental and private agencies.

As one of the oldest and most architecturally diverse cities in the region, Prague’s collective memory is broad, including Communism and its historical role as the keystone to Central Europe. This makes Prague the ideal location from which to explore the complex relationships and contradictions that comprise the history and culture of the region, which students learn at the Collegium Hieronymi Pragensis from Northwestern University and European experts.  In addition to taking Northwestern courses, students participate in field studies and excursions within Prague and the Czech Republic.  Past excursions included the Prague Castle, the medieval town of Cesky Krumlov in Southern Bohemia, the gothic monastery of Zlata Koruna, the 14th-century silver mining town of Kutna Hora, the concentration camp at Terezin, as well as an overnight trip to Southern Moraviafor, a boat trip through the Punkva caves, and wine tasting in a private wine cellar.

The Northwestern Study Abroad Office offers this exciting summer program in conjunction with Collegium Hieronymi Pragensis, in Munich, Czech Republic!

As one of the oldest and most architecturally diverse cities in the region, Prague’s collective memory is broad, including Communism and its historical role as the keystone to Central Europe. This makes Prague the ideal location from which to explore the complex relationships and contradictions that comprise the history and culture of the region, which students learn at the Collegium Hieronymi Pragensis from Northwestern University and European experts.  In addition to taking Northwestern courses, students participate in field studies and excursions within Prague and the Czech Republic.  Past excursions included the Prague Castle, the medieval town of Cesky Krumlov in Southern Bohemia, the gothic monastery of Zlata Koruna, the 14th-century silver mining town of Kutna Hora, the concentration camp at Terezin, as well as an overnight trip to Southern Moraviafor, a boat trip through the Punkva caves, and wine tasting in a private wine cellar.

Located in one of Europe’s most cosmopolitan and dynamic cities, Northwestern’s customized summer program in Barcelona gives students the unique opportunity to increase their Spanish language skills while experiencing first-hand the city’s architectural, artistic, and multi-cultural wonders. The Universitat Pompeu Fabra (UPF) is one of the leading institutions in Spain, known for its international environment and cutting edge academics. UPF has collaborated with the Northwestern Department of Spanish and Portuguese to create a special program for Northwestern students. Located in one of Europe’s most cosmopolitan and dynamic cities, Northwestern’s customized summer program in Barcelona gives students the unique opportunity to increase their Spanish language skills while experiencing first-hand the city’s architectural, artistic, and multi-cultural wonders.

UPF has collaborated with the Northwestern Department of Spanish and Portuguese to create a special program for Northwestern students.
